AVON PARK AIR FORCE RANGE
FISH, WILDLIFE, AND OUTDOOR RECREATION
What's going right (and wrong) on the Range
Here is a bit of information on what is going on around the Range.

Good:  The road along the North East fence is finally repaired and open to traffic!

Good:  Mowing is ongoing in each of the campgrounds.  With the growing season supported by much needed rain, we are admittedly behind the power curve!

Good:  Our deer survey results will be posted soon.  Our numbers were almost identical with last years results!

Good:  We are instituting a new law enforcement program on the Range.  We anticipate having 3 law enforcement Rangers on staff supporting regular patrols through campgrounds, along the perimeters, and all across the Range.  We want to ensure each of our users has the most enjoyable experience we can provide on APAFR.

Bad:  Two individuals will receive warning letters by mail for neglecting to sign out.  It is APAFR policy to sign in and out each time you visit the Range.  Failure to do so results in one warning letter, then administrative action will be taken up to and including removal of all access privileges for further non-compliance.

Bad:  Two individuals were noted by FWC officers along the west side of the Arbuckle Marsh dike on APAFR property hunting alligators.  Hunting alligators along Arbuckle Creek is allowed, however hunters may not enter APAFR property, and air boats are never allowed on APAFR.  We are working diligently to improve the signage along the creek channel to assist hunters with identifying Range property.

Ugly:  Two individuals were caught and convicted of poaching an alligator on APAFR property.  A third individual was also involved.  Each has been suspended indefinitely from the Range, and face criminal charges and penalties.
