The Military Recreation Area (MRA) is available to Active Duty, Guard, Reservist, retired, 100% disabled veterans, DoD civilian employees and Avon Park Correctional Institute (APCI) employees. This area is generally available seven days a week but may have closures depending on military mission.
The MRA consists of over 2,000 acres for hunting and has one primitive campground. All user of the MRA must obtain a permit and safety briefing through the Outdoor Recreation office prior to entering. A state certified hunters education certificate is required for anyone wishing to hunt the MRA.
Below is the recreational schedule. This schedule covers a one week period and is updated each Wednesday, it is important to note any closures or Arfield Lockdown periods. During an Airfield lock-down all MRA units are closed with he exception of the Ballfield and 1200 acres. Airfield lock-downs require Austing Hammock campground to be evacuated. Camping equipment may be left in camp provided fires are out and equipment stored.

APCI utilizes their weapons firing range on most Tuesdays, this limits access to and around building 600, check kiosk for time schedules and plan accordingly.
